Okay, here is the deal, this thread is to talk about comics you are reading and that you like.

I have a few "rules"... Please no bashing. This is for comics you LIKE, and don't tear up the other opinions or comics that others post that they like. Let's use the Thumper rule here people. Also, you don't have to put every book you read, just a few you really enjoy.

I'll start:
Incognito By Brubaker and Phillips was great this week.
Hulk or as people like to call it Rulk. I'm a big fan of the Hulk and this is just a fun relaxing book that features the Hulk doing what I want to see... HULK SMASH!!
With Image I enjoy Proof, Back to Brooklyn, Invincible, and Firebreather.
I read a lot of Vertigo books but my favorite right now are Scalped and Fables.

I just re-read Long Halloween and last night started Dark Victory. I know I read Dark Victory as the issues came out, but this is the first time I've read it collected. I don't remember any of it, so it's like reading it for the first time which is awesome.

I'll post more as I think of them... I have a ton more.

So how about you?

I'm enjoying the Incredible Hercules.  I've been reading Heavy Metal lately and I've been enjoying most of the stuff they publish, especially the longer story in the issue is usually good. The shorter comics are sometimes just illustrated sex jokes that get old quick.
Also, since you mentioned Batman, I've been reading Knightfall.  It's one of the comics that made me stop reading in the 90's (that and the clone saga), but I'm actually enjoying it.  I could probably think of a lot more if i wasn't half asleep.

Ex Machina (When it actually gets released)
Criminal
The Walking Dead
Captain America
Dare Devil
Punisher: War Journal (Which is ending)

I have been getting into trades a lot more, especially for mini series, like I ordered The Roberts mini, and I will be ordering the Savage TPB as well.

I love Ex Machina.

Criminal
Fables
Jack of Fables
Walking Dead
Gutsville (when it was actually being released)
Proof
Kick-Ass
Madman Atomic Comics
Back to Brooklyn

I'm interested in checking out Incognito and perhaps Scalped and War Heroes.  My problem is finding the time.

Same here, man. I need to upload a picture of my Green Arrow shelf. Got all kinds of toys, statues, glasses, and a bunch of other cool stuff.

It seems like this is the perfect place to ask what Green Arrow comics I should try to find.  I think i've read two old issues of the Green Arrow/Green Lantern series and I've always thought Green Arrow seemed like an interesting character, but I've never read a review of a Green Arrow trade that convinced me that that was the one I should try.  So I just keep overlooking him. So are there one or two trades, or maybe old arcs that I might be able to find, that you would suggest?

I feel behind on Incredible Hercules after about 3 issues, but I have all the Hardcovers on my Amazon wish list. Only reason I feel behind was because I moved from San Diego to Oregon and I live pretty far from a comic book store. I'll get back into it soon.

Knightfall was one of my favorite Batman stories way back when. I haven't read it since it first came out, and I wonder if it still holds up.

I used to get Heavy Metal many many years ago, but I've become more of a 2000AD man.
Did you ever read the Metal Hurlant book that Humanoids put out?

Yeah, Ex Machina is awesome. Did you read that last meta issue with Tony Harris and Vaughn in it?
Pretty much everything on your list I think are great books especially Criminal. Brubaker really has been on fire these last few years.
I haven't read any of Punisher: War Journal yet. I was reading Garth Ennis's Punisher Max instead. But now that it's over and all in hardcover I plan on picking it up. It's on my list of things to look for at the New York con.

Madman!! Mike Allred is so awesome. The issues of Fables he did make me wish Vertigo would give him a Fables spin-off.
I know they are making a Cinderella spin-off mini, and I think a Beauty and the Beast spin-off with art by Allred would be great.

Hard Traveling Heroes by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams, is a must read.
Long Bow Hunters by Mike Grell.
The Kevin Smith and Brad Melter issues with Phil Hester are also good ones.

What else did you think, David?

Yeah, Denny O'Neil trades are a great place to start. I think Denny is half-way responsible for me joining the clergy. The guy really woke me up at ten or eleven years old and HTH really showed me how big the world was. They can sometimes seem preachy in our current stage of comic story-telling, but they are all fun and you can pick them up on the cheap in two new volumes at almost any bookstore.

I enjoyed Diggle's Green Arrow: Year One. It's in trade now and not a bad place to start. Grell's enitre run was highly addictive (I think it was 70 something issues), but a bit violent and sometimes over the top. Unfortunately there hasn't been too much to be excited about recently outside of Smith's first issues of volume III and Melter's "Archer's Quest." I'm definately not pointing fingers at anyone, it's just that a lot of Ollie's values and his character have changed with our current trend in culture to love the anti-hero. He's still Ollie and I still love him, but he's cheated on his lover, walked out on his responsibilities as a father, scammed stocks, and had the crap kicked out of him. There's some really fun stories in there from the past five or six years, but you might have to dig.

Oh yeah, for sure check out some of the JLU episodes with Ollie... they are a hoot. And Devin Grayson wrote a fiction book that featured Ollie which I enjoyed, I think it was called Inheritance.

Mike Allred on a kid's book?! GET HIM NOW!

The man could illustrate a phone book and it'd be the best thing ever. Cripes!

Oh yeah. I suppose I should contribute an actual topical post...

Ongoing series - Just Proof and Usagi Yojimbo, though I'm well behind on both of those.  Sad

Minis- Bomb Queen, Mice Templar, Gallant Girl, Umbrella Academy

Upcoming minis - Johnny Monster, Incredible Journey, Lions, Tigers and Bears, Overlook

One shots/GNs - Archibald, Courtney Crumrin, Platinum Grit

Series that aren't out with any regularity but which I'd buy in a heartbeat if more came out - Cemetery Blues, Casanova, Halo and Sprocket, Runners, any new Jhonen Vasquez stuff, Multiple Warheads

I also pick up Sonic the Hedgehog for my daughter and occasionally, for my son, Tiny Titans, Billy Batson and Cartoon Network Block Party (only if it has Chowder or Foster's Home stories though).

Mike and I share the same last name, I've always wanted to meet him at a Con to see how far he's traced back his geneology. The Allred's all came from one group of brothers as near as I can tell, who settled in the Carolina's in the late 1700's. I've been lucky enough to trace my line back to one of them, thanks in part to military records. I always wondered how far apart we were down the line.

OK, I derailed that big time.

I forgot about Scott Morse until I saw a new interview with him on Newsarama. So add him and all his brilliant stuff to my list, too.

I also started reading the preview pages of BPM, Paul Sizer's new comic, so that's getting added to my One Shots list, as well.

If Kerry Callen and Lawrence Marvit started doing comic book work again, it'd be like that glorious Golden Age of my late teens/early twenties was happening all over again. Warm fuzzies!  Grin Grin
